HewTech Electronics LLC
2006
12/21/2006: We have recently designed a FIREPLUG CDI for the 1980 Yamaha SRX. This was a completely different CDI than the 77~79 SRX, and has become more popular lately. Our thanks to Kevin Buss for working closely with us on testing & refining the details for this model.
11/15/2006:
Here's another great source for parts! Ontario
Recreational Parts & Salvage , just North of Toronto, specializes in NOS
vintage Arctic Cat and Merc parts. They also reproduce the oval race handle bars
with hoops, engine mounts, exhaust flanges and a good selection of other hard to
find Merc parts. They are the ONLY (other then us) distributor of HewTech
FIREPLUG CDI Ignitions, covering Canada. (That says something, since we don't
deal with just anybody!!). ORP's also offers Northstar Racing Skis,
Kitty Cat & 120 Performance parts, Intech Graphics for sleds as well as Lee
Fredrickson Classic Muscle Sled Fiberglass hoods, pans etc. Check out
their website for their selection. Watch for the
ORPS decals on some of the faster sleds at the races...sounds like they have
themselves quite a team for the 2007 Vintage Oval season! www.orps.ca
for more details! Tell them you saw this on the HewTech Electronics LLC
website!

FIREPLUG CDI:
83~91 3-cyl Polaris Applications:
This is the first time we have offered a FIREPLUG CDI for post-1983
applications!
This has been a popular Vintage conversion for early-model 3-cyl's
because of the Advanced / Retard curve function available after 1983. The
Early CDI's were "STRAIGHT-CURVE", or basically no ignition curve.
The later stator / CDI combination provided the much needed timing curve which
provided much better overall engine performance. Click
to see applications!
10/01/06:
For the month of October, HewTech Electronics LLC is offering a 10% discount on
any FIREPLUG CDI purchase & we pay the shipping! We will also include
one of our COOL new Decals!
Don't miss out on this deal...the decal itself is worth 2~3HP in bragging rights and chicks dig it!
9/01/06: The summer is quickly coming to a close so, we're back at it! We're still recuperating from the summer development & transitioning into building CDI's again, so expect a few days delay on orders, but we'll get the CDI's built & soon be back to capacity!
We've been busy at HewTech Electronics LLC / www.CDIBOX.com
this summer, working on the New Harley Davidson CDI.
It will be available starting in late September.
We are doing further evaluation on a FIREPLUG Yamaha SR-twin CDI (SR433/643), and had promising results so far, with the limited testing we've attempted. We now have a second Racer / SR performing some testing, so things should progress. We hope to continue CDI development into the fall months, in an attempt to design a FIREPLUG CDI for the Yamaha Exciter 78~80. Lot's of interest in this CDI, so we will give it our best effort to complete it yet this year.
Back in April. we started a VINTAGE SNOWMOBILE IGNITION SYSTEMS FORUM for questions and answers to the age-old questions about sparking the engine to life. We will post follow-ups to the questions directed towards www.CDIBOX.com and hope others will share their knowledge and information with those looking for answers. Give us a day or so to respond.
SUMMER 2006: Starting April 1st, thru September 1st 2006 our CDI delivery
times will be increased. We typically do all of our New Product
development during the Summer months. If you want improved products,
we have to do the work up-front.
Don't worry...CDI's are still available, it just takes a bit longer for us to
get them out in the Summer Months...watch this page for summer updates of NEW
& Improved products!....thanks.
7/12/06: If you have not checked out the all new Pro Vintage Racing website, now's a great time to do so! They have re-organized the staff & have got a jump on the racing season, already listing the 2007 Classes, Rules & some Early Events. The saying on their website is "Tell your mother We started it!", and for good reason. Pro-Vintage Racing was the past affiliation behind the Vintage World Championship at Eagle River, thus starting the Vintage Oval Racing craze we know today. If you appreciate a well organized event, Cash-payback and the best Vintage oval racing around, attend a Pro-Vintage Race & see the experts in their own environment! Application for membership is listed on their website & visit their FORUM for the latest happenings at PVR!
5/16/06:
There's some excellent video footage on Extreme
Vintage Racing's website. Here's the scoop from their page: Eagle
River 2006: The Extreme Vintage Racing Yamaha 292 MOD takes
to the track for the 340 MOD Mens qualifier. Our driver was instructed to
simply finish in a Top-5 transfer spot, and NOT to win. We
wanted to keep the performance a secret for the Sunday Final. Click HERE
to go to the site & see the video. For those
with good memories, you may also recall the 2004
Eagle River video (Special thanks to Paul Huml
& Hosting@BadgerTech.net
for the 2006 video).
4/23/06:
HewTech Electronics LLC / www.CDIBOX.com has
launched a Forum to discuss strictly Vintage Snowmobile Electronics, Wiring,
Ignition System questions etc. It's always been difficult to get this
information on the old stuff, so we are hoping to help provide a place for
discussion & sharing information. Visit & Register at:

4/15/06: In our ongoing quest to pass along all the Best tips and sources, this one is a goldmine! Trying to find Vintage snowmobile reference material is not easy. We know by the search records & hits on our webpage. Visit TESHIO CONSULTING LLC and check out the vast array of books, manuals and DVD's available. It's
a Bird, it's a Plane, no, it's our NEW WINNING BY DESIGN www.CDIBOX.com
Logo on a Tee-shirt! This rare RaceWear
design was provided by none other than Joe Dereszynski from Trident
Engineering. Joe also designed the NEW www.CDIBOX.com
logo for us. If you look real close, you will see the sleeves carry www.EXTREMEVINTAGERACING.com
and TRIDENT ENGINEERING logo's as well. Talk
about a Winning Team! Not sure if we plan to make many of
these, depends on if the demand is there. Ditch the old FOGHAT tee-shirt
& contact us about sporting the NEW www.CDIBOX.com
RACEWEAR! You can also contact us for Trident Engineering Contact
info for your business needs! Operators standing by....(perhaps just standing
around)...
3/21/06: Check out MIDNIGHT RACING! Another fellow Michigan Racer (and BEVRA Hi-Points winner for 2006) and all around good-guy Clay Stroup / Almont, MI has a Blog that updates throughout the season. Clay races throughout Michigan and is a regular at Eagle River Vintage Weekend. Clay's too modest to mention it, but he too 's is sporting a FIREPLUG CDI on his 340 Merc Trail-Twister! Watch for #73 and check out his website!
3/06/06: Well it's the end of another Racing season.
Started out with a throttle-cable pulling out of the lever, while
running 2nd on the last lap in 300 MOD Single, and a 5th place finish on a 440
Fan sled that didn't turn left at Eagle River, WI. Lot's of nights spent
this season dialing in clutching and changing steering geometry, but each week
showed improvements (5th, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st).
We really enjoyed the season and got to hang out & talk with some great people at the races. Special thanks to Kurt & Elizabeth Andrews / Extreme Vintage Racing for our visit to Eagle River Vintage Weekend (Sled, lodging & taxi services), Clay & Linda Stroup (sled hauling & great company), also thanks to Kevin Sirois / Pop-a-top Performance for his Mercury / Kohler parts, knowledge & support.
We would like to also acknowledge the fine events we attended: Eagle River Vintage Weekend, PRO Vintage Racing, Lucky-Thumb Vintage Racing (Kingston, MI), Albright Shores / Gladwin Ice Carnival (Gladwin, MI) and Big Extreme Vintage Racing Association. All did an excellent job and provided great competition and fun racing!
(LEFT)
Monty Wiseman aboard his 1st place winning Yamaha 292 at the 3/5/06 Albright
Shores, MI final event. Monty missed some of the early events & got it going just
in time to bring home some 1st place hardware.
We don't have a picture of it, but Monty set his trophy down just long enough to run a few hot laps on the HewTech Electronics FIREPLUG Twister. I don't think you'll actually see Monty sporting a Merc Twister next season, but I bet the thought ran through his mind exiting turn 2...!~~~
Thanks again to all for their FIREPLUG CDI
purchase this season. Always looking for feedback to improve our
products. Many changes happening behind the scenes. Watch for
announcements of NEW CDI's offered, as well as Replacement
/ re-design / introductions (Harley)...visit us for details & thanks for a
great season!

2/5/06: Good News! We

back for updates!
1/28/06: We always pass along information when we find an outstanding service. Well, this is your lucky day. Fab-Jet Services is our main supplier for Water-Jet cut CDI brackets. We located Fab-Jet after we were unsatisfied with the quality of our current supplier & their LASER cutting. Fab-Jet Services isn't your typical Fab shop. These guys will provide 1 piece or 10,000 pieces. They don't just build machine parts, they also do really cool stuff like custom header gaskets for an AMX 401 Big-Block, or stainless caliper mounts for custom motorcycles. Check out the Arctic-Cat drag sled or the 400 in their Camaro in their Racing Gallery and all the brackets involved. Can't find anybody to do the special tachometer brackets, or engine plate you need....well, you just did! Just be sure to mention HewTech Electronics sent you!
1/20/06: Did you check out our NEW logo above? Thanks to Joe at Trident Engineering for the handywork. Joe does some excellent Graphics and design for Logo's & Decals etc. Contact us & we will pass along Joe's contact information.
Video 2006 Eagle-River 300-MOD Single-Cyl Heat Race I had the opportunity to drive the Modified Yamaha 292 of Kurt Andrews / Extreme Vintage Racing this year at 2006 Eagle River Vintage World Championships. This was the heat race, and we only needed to finish in the TOP-5 to transfer to the semi's. We took this opportunity to play around with the sled & see how it handled & performed, without giving away too many secrets. As you will see in the video, we had enough power to play around a bit & still finished near the front. We transferred into the Semi, also requiring a TOP-5 finish to transfer, and on the last lap, while running 2nd place, the throttle-cable pulled out of the lever. This sidelined the quick Yamaha for the weekend. Although disappointing, it was still a very memorable & enjoyable time! Thanks again to Kurt & Elizabeth Andrews for their hospitality & Paul Huml for taking this video!
1/1/2006: HewTech Electronics LLC has Sponsored a Class at Eagle River Vintage Loadmaster Classic Weekend Jan 6~8, 2006. Watch the sleds for our www.CDIBOX.com & HewTech Electronics LLC Decals! Rumor has it there may be an SR-Twin-Cyl Yamaha running a prototype FIREPLUG CDI
